Quality Suites Universal Orlando

 Growing up, one of my favorite TV shows was ‘Zorro’. I couldn’t get enough of it! Part of the charm was the early California, Mexican-influenced atmosphere that gave it an exotic feel of adventure. That’s what you get when you arrive at the Quality Suites Universal in Orlando. The Mexican tile as you step out of your car, the dark wood of the lobby, the wrought-iron gates, the earthen colors, the open balcony that leads your eyes to the high ceiling and tower that serves as the skylight. I challenge anyone to not look for the Z on the wall.
There’s also a convenience store in the lobby for when the “munchies” hit you, as well as a game room for when the kids want to be challenged.
I take a stroll around the heated pool and Jacuzzi located in the secured central courtyard, accessible only to hotel guests. On a hot day it’s very inviting. As I have no bathing suit I ponder the possibility of falling in by mistake, but reason triumphs at the end.
 Don’t expect the usual measly muffin and thimble of juice for breakfast so many hotels seem to offer nowadays. There’s a complimentary full hot buffet breakfast daily, featuring six hot items every morning, whether it’s eggs, pancakes, bacon, juice, milk, coffee, etc. Add to this the two-hour cocktail reception every evening and the free access to the exercise room starts to look like a good idea.
Maria Alvarez, the manager on duty has agreed to show me one of the rooms. She leads me to a spacious suite, (remember, all the rooms are suites, hence the name), divided into family room, bedroom and bathroom.
All the rooms are full suites, with a choice of a king-sized bed or two double beds, with the added sleeping space provided by a sofa bed that converts into a queen-sized sleeper. There’s also two television sets with cable TV, free HBO, CNN, ESPN and Disney Channel included. And if that’s not enough you can choose from a great variety of films-on-demand. (Oh, man, they have ‘The Pink Panther’).
 All the rooms are equipped with iron, ironing board, hair dryer, in-room safe, coffee pot, refrigerator and microwave, complimentary local calls, complimentary daily newspaper and guest laundry facilities.
When you’re ready to leave the comforts of your suite there’s complimentary scheduled transportation to and from many Orlando attractions like Walt Disney Resort, Universal Studios, Sea World and Wet-n-Wild. As the hotel is a few minutes away from famous International Drive, you’ll have access to hundreds of smaller attractions, restaurants and shops of every kind.
And after all this fun, it’s nice to know that you’ll be returning to a clean and comfortable room, a friendly staff and maybe even a great movie.
Incidentally, the Quality Suites Universal also caters to business meetings and professional travelers, with a flexible meeting room available.
After a great visit I ride into the sunset on my faithful horse Tornado, wearing a black mask and brandishing my sword of justice and…, sorry, kinda got carried away for a minute.
