| | Solana Resort Homes From Tony de la Cruz for Orlandoescape.com
Here I am on my first on-the-spot reporting assignment and I get the nicest place you can imagine. Solana Vacation Homes are exactly what the name implies, homes away from home. But not just any home. These are luxury homes that will make the most demanding traveler feel like they’ve rented paradise.
About twenty minutes away from the Walt Disney World Resort, it’s the perfect lodging destination for those who want to go on vacation but don’t want to feel like a tourist. It’s like owning a second home without spending a fortune and The Magic Kingdom happens to be in your backyard.
As soon as we (my son Chris and I) arrived at this gated community I was greeted by the nicest security guard ever who directed me to the Clubhouse. It’s a spacious one-story building situated in the middle of the complex. We opened the large double glass doors and entered into the clubhouse of my dreams. Sofas, tables and chairs everywhere, a large plasma television, potted plants and vases of beautiful flowers, add to the home-away-from-home environment.
It’s actually even better than your home. Imagine your living room. Now imagine there’s a state-of-the-art game room with air hockey, pinball machines and shooting galleries (while I’m writing this my son disappeared into it and I haven’t seen him since), a row of computers ready to connect you to the internet, and a small concierge office where in addition to have all your questions answered and needs met you can buy your favorite soda or snack.
Today it’s lovely, Andrea the concierge on duty, ready to help with reservations, information or just a friendly talk. From where I’m sitting I can see through large French doors a beautiful backyard and a crystal-clear pool that on this hot summer day calls me like the mermaids called the sailors of old. But alas, we brought no bathing suits. The landscaping is so beautiful it would drive my wife into a frenzied rush to the local greenhouse on a flower-buying marathon for our own backyard, which is her beautifully kept domain.
I’ve been here about forty minutes and I haven’t had a touristy thought a single time. The mellow mustard color of the walls, the Roman pillars, luxurious curtains, air-conditioning, chandeliers and wall niches are just some of the details that have given me a false sense of ownership. I’m watching “While You Were Out” on TLC and I’m ready for a warm glass of milk, a good book and a soft bed.
That’s where the homes come in. They are large, extremely well kept up, uniformly manicured grass, large garages, privately furnished, large modern kitchens and some of them with their own pools.
So in conclusion, I was pleasantly surprised by the sense of community I found here in Solana Resort Homes. People were out of the houses, saying hello to everyone. The only thing that betrays the resort part of it is the variety of accents, the sunburned faces and the Mickey Mouse Ears some were wearing. My son and I loved it.
