There’s something different about Orlando once Halloween season arrives. Pumpkins begin popping up, seasonal treats find their way onto menus, costumes come out of storage, and some of the city’s favorite entertainment districts start embracing their spooky side.

And you certainly don’t have to spend the entire day inside a theme park to get into the Halloween spirit.

This fall, spooky season in Orlando brings everything from creepy cocktails at Disney Springs to trick-or-treating, costume fun, pumpkin painting and a car show with a Halloween twist. Whether you’re visiting Central Florida for a fall getaway or you live nearby and are looking for something different to do, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.

Here are three Halloween happenings OrlandoEscape.com thinks are worth putting on your fall calendar.

Sip Something Spooky at The Edison in Disney Springs

Disney Springs is always a fun place to spend an Orlando evening, but Halloween gives visitors another reason to stop by The Edison.

From September 1 through October 31, The Edison is bringing a darker seasonal atmosphere to its distinctive 1920s-inspired setting, along with three specialty Halloween cocktails.

The Alleycat, priced at $19, combines Dos Hombres tequila, orange juice, agave nectar, lime juice and a beet juice float. The drink is served with a vial of “blood,” giving it just the right presentation for Halloween.

Guests looking for something with a smoky edge can try Hallowed By Thy Grove for $18. It features Dos Hombres mezcal and tequila along with crème de mûre, barrel-aged maple syrup, lemon, lime, cardamom bitters and blackberry.

The Blood Donor, priced at $20, mixes Bacardi Superior, Aperol, Solerno blood orange liqueur and lime juice.

With its industrial décor, vintage-inspired atmosphere and dramatic nighttime setting, The Edison already feels a little theatrical. Add a Halloween cocktail to the mix and it becomes an easy stop for adults spending a fall evening at Disney Springs.

The seasonal cocktails are scheduled to be available through October 31.

Halloween Goes From Family Fun to Adults-Only at Kings Orlando

Kings Orlando is taking a day-to-night approach to Halloween, starting with activities for families before switching things up for adults later in the evening.

From 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., families can participate in a building-wide trick-or-treat experience. Costumes are encouraged, making this a fun option for parents looking for an indoor Halloween activity with the kids.

Later that evening, the atmosphere changes.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Kings will host an adults-only Halloween experience featuring hidden “Trick” and “Treat” cards throughout the venue.

Finding a card could result in a challenge or a reward. A “Trick,” for example, might require someone to bowl a frame using their non-dominant hand. A “Treat” could mean scoring a complimentary appetizer or another prize.

Of course, Halloween drinks are part of the celebration too.

From October 12 through October 31, guests can order the Boo’s Bag for $13. Served in an IV-style drink bag, the seasonal cocktail combines Bacardi, orange juice, pineapple and cranberry.

Between bowling, costumes, Halloween challenges and themed drinks, Kings offers a different way to spend Halloween in Orlando without heading into the theme parks.

Trunk or Treat Takes Over Promenade at Sunset Walk

Families looking for candy, costumes and plenty of room to enjoy the Florida fall weather can head to Promenade at Sunset Walk for its Halloween festivities.

On Saturday, October 24, the entertainment district will host its free Trunk or Treat Trick-or-Treating & Car Show from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The car show begins at 4 p.m., followed by trick-or-treating at 5 p.m. Participating vehicles will distribute candy while supplies last.

But these aren’t necessarily your everyday cars.

Guests can check out Halloween-themed vehicles competing for the Top 5 Merchant’s Choice Trophies, adding a little friendly competition to the celebration.

The evening will also feature live music and street performers, while Sunset Walk’s collection of more than 30 restaurants, shops and entertainment experiences gives families plenty of options before or after trick-or-treating.

Admission and parking are free, and pets are welcome. Visitors should keep in mind that outside food, beverages and coolers are not permitted.

Paint a Pumpkin at Sunset Walk

The Halloween fun at Sunset Walk isn’t limited to one evening.

From October 16 through October 30, visitors can take part in The Patch Pumpkin Painting & Corn Maze from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Purchase a pumpkin and you’ll receive a complimentary paint kit, turning a visit to Sunset Walk into an easy fall activity for the family.

It can also be a nice alternative for younger children who may not be ready for Orlando’s scarier Halloween attractions. Instead of haunted houses and jump scares, families can spend an afternoon painting pumpkins and exploring the entertainment district.

Halloween in Orlando Is More Than Haunted Houses

Orlando may be famous for its major theme park Halloween celebrations, but some of the best seasonal experiences can be found beyond the park gates.

That’s part of what makes fall in Central Florida so much fun.

Adults can spend an evening sipping a Blood Donor or Alleycat at The Edison in Disney Springs. Families can dress up and go trick-or-treating at Kings Orlando. And over at Sunset Walk, Halloween brings together decorated cars, candy, pumpkin painting, live entertainment and an evening outdoors.

Better yet, these activities can easily fit around the rest of an Orlando vacation. You don’t necessarily need to dedicate an entire day to Halloween. Stop by Disney Springs for dinner and a seasonal drink, spend a few hours at Sunset Walk or add Kings to an evening out.
