In recent years, many businesses have been going green to benefit the environment as well as reduce waste and save money, and the hotels on Walt Disney World property strive to be as green as possible. Like the Disney World hotels, many of the major hotels in the Orlando area have been certified as green hotels through the Florida Green Lodging Program, which was established in 2004.
This program is a voluntary initiative of the Florida Department of Environmental Program that recognizes lodging facilities that make a commitment to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources. To become designated Florida Green Lodging facility, hotels must conduct a thorough property assessment and implement a specified number of environmental practices in six areas of sustainable operations: Communication and Education; Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling; Water Conservation; Energy Efficiency; Indoor Air Quality and Transportation.
